Windsor 2024

Judge  Kathryn Maggs

A perfect day for judging my favourite breed, the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. My grateful thanks to stewards, Joyce and Mark, who had the knowledge, experience and humour, to ensure the ring was run in the best and most efficient way; they were so helpful, and added to the enjoyment of the day. I was pleased with the overall quality of the dogs, with all dogs having correct dentition, good pigmentation, correct tail length and double dew claws. All were well presented.

1 Reilly’s Ch/swiss/ir/multi/int/ Ch Lisjovia Boris Bear at Darmaror JW ShCM CW1
9. Seven year old male, who belies his age in movement, which is light and effortless, and holds his topline whilst moving on tight cat like feet. Good head, with almond shaped amber brown eyes, leading onto a well muscled frame, with medium rear angulation. Both dog and handler working well together as a team.

1 Absolom’s Shanlimore Alexander.
A very handsome ten month old puppy, who looks all male and is a good size. He has an eye catching head, with the typical faraway pyrenean expression, in lovely obliquely set eyes. He moved steadily with a level topline. He does need to tighten on the front, but that should come with age and the correct exercise. He will be a very promising prospect when maturity arrives. However, both handler and puppy would benefit from ringcraft training, which would bring out the best in both of them. BPIB.

1 Munson’s Travis Bear Du Pyrdanti for Pyrbern (Imp. Fra)
. At nearly two, this youngster is developing correctly, and looks imposing. His chest is just starting to drop, which gives him a pleasing outline. Liked his head, which has the correct blunt ‘v’ shape. He has a profuse coat and excellent pigmentation. He holds his topline well, standing and on the move, with a good front, and covers the ground well. It look forward to watching him develop.

1 Challinor’s Shanlimore Marvin
. This boy is slightly rangier, and at three years old still needs to mature and fill out in his body and head. His dark amber brown eyes are obliquely set with the correct pyrenean expression. He has a level topline and moved steadily around the ring, with a good front and medium angulation.
2 Woolf’s Sabre Golden Ticket Du Pyrdanti. I did prefer the head of this three year to my winner, with no obvious stop, close fitting lips, and expressive eyes of dark amber brown. He kept a level topline on the move, but felt his movement was not as free flowing as my first placed dog.

1 Kenyon and Ward’s Ch. Charibere Simply The Sequel at Kaianna
. Love the head on this boy, which has no coarseness and obvious stop, and the lovely faraway pyrenean expression in his almond shaped dark amber eyes. He moved well on cat like feet, with level topline and correct angulation, and was sympathetically handled to obtain the best from him. DCC.
2 Baverstocks’ Kalkasi Just Because JW. It was very close between my first and second placed. Both moved with equal merit; however I preferred the head of my first placed dog. I was very happy to award him the RDCC.
3 Carter’s Jumicar Just an Illusion.

1 Challinor’s Shanlimore Marvin (as per critique for Limit Dog)
2 Bhattacharya’s Jumicar Uptown Girl.
This girl moved well, but was just carrying a bit of extra weight. She was beautifully presented, and at one with her handler. She has a level topline and good angulation. I just preferred movement and head on first placed dog.

1 Kenyon and Ward’s Charibere Reason to Dream at Kaianna
. Tall pretty girl, with good leg length. At fifteen months she is developing correctly and has a feminine head, with no obvious stop, close fitting lips, and dark amber brown eyes. She moved confidently around the ring on cat like feet, and correct medium angulation, with a level topline. I look forward to seeing her when she matures.
2 Baverstock’s Kalkasi Super Special. Another fifteen month old girl who is still maturing. She has a good head and loved her expression. Expertly handled around the ring, showing her level topline. She was just a little close on her rear movement, which made the decision between first and second easier, as both bitches had so much to like.

1 Cole’s Gillandant Jasmine
. I love the head on this girl, with beautiful dark amber brown expressive eyes She was beautifully presented with a profuse coat of excellent texture. At two years old she is maturing well. She moved well around the ring, which reflected on the medium angulation, on the desired cat like feet. 2 Baverstock’s Kalkasi Super Special. (As per JB critique) 3 Bhattacharya’s Jumicar Uptown Girl (As per SB critique)

1 Harris’s Febus Hardknott
. Such a pretty girl and so feminine. Beautifully presented and the only dog today with the shepherds crook in her tail. I liked her profile, and with a correct front and medium angulation, she moved steadily around the ring. I was very happy to award her the RBCC.
2 Thornes’ Belshanmish New Sensation at Pyrajay. Tall handsome girl who was well presented. She has lovely dark amber brown eyes, with close fitting lips. She has a well muscled frame, and moved with a level topline. However she does require more body substance, and her rear movement was not as free flowing as I would have liked.
3 Carter’s Jumicar Moonstone

1 Bowker and Gibson’s Ch. Febus Anapeou
. Such a stunning girl. She is tall and very feminine. I loved her head, which was everything I look for in a female pyrenean mountain dog; melting dark amber brown eyes, no obvious stop and close fitting lips. She has the size and elegance required for the breed, and was expertly handled on the move to show her correct front and medium angulation, that enabled her free flowing movement. I was more than happy to award her the BCC and BOB.
2 Carter’s Jumicar Sweet Lady Luck. Another pretty girl who moved well. Slightly heavier build than the winner, she was beautifully presented, with a profuse coat of correct texture. She was handled to great advantage, and showed a level topline around the ring. The decision for BOB, was decided on the movement. Both dogs looked wonderful going around the ring, but the bitch used her rear hindquarters to produce a more powerful effect.
